Three-vehicle collision kills one, injures two others on I-90

A Ritzville resident was killed and two people injured in a crash Monday night on Interstate 90 a few miles east of the border separating Lincoln and Spokane counties.

Jacob C. Harder IV, 29, was driving west on I-90 about 9 p.m. when his 2010 Ford Ranger rear-ended a 2002 Chevy Avalanche driven by Steven L. Martin, 59, of Graham, Washington, the Washington State Patrol reported in a news release.

Harder’s truck rolled and entered the eastbound lane, where his pickup was struck by an eastbound semitruck. Harder died at the scene.

Martin’s Avalanche traveled over the guardrail to the right and went into a ditch, WSP said. Martin and a passenger in Martin’s pickup, Debra D. Rainey, 59, of Graham, were transported to Deaconess Hospital, where they were treated and released.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Brian R. Barrie, 43, was not injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. All involved were wearing seat belts at the time.
