One dead, two injured in vehicle collision near Nine Mile Falls

One person is dead and two are injured after deputies say a car in northern Spokane County hit a tree while attempting to pass another vehicle.

The incident happened at around 9 p.m. Saturday near 18719 N. South Bank Road in Nine Mile Falls, when a driver and two passengers in a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck lost control while overtaking another vehicle, left the roadway and hit a fence and tree.

The driver, identified as a young adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The two young adult passengers were taken to local hospitals. Deputies said one was treated and released for minor injuries, while the other remains hospitalized for serious injuries.

North South Bank Road was closed for several hours while law enforcement investigated.

Impairment, speed and reckless driver are possible factors, deputies said.

The Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the deceased.
