A Garden City man could face kidnapping and rape charges after police say he sexually assaulted a woman Saturday night.

A woman escaped a home not long before 8:30 p.m. on Remington Street where police say Douglas Kaufman, 59, raped her, according to a news release from the Garden City Police Department. Officers believe Kaufman and the woman knew each other, and that the rape occurred in a residence on the street. Police believe Kaufman restrained the woman with zip ties and tape, according to the release.

She escaped and fled to a neighbor’s home where she called the police.

According to the release, Kaufman is a registered sex offender in Ada County. He is scheduled to appear in court 1:30 p.m. today.
