North Idaho teen hospitalized after accidental shotgun blast to the face

A 13-year-old was hospitalized Friday after Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies say he was accidentally shot in the face with a shotgun.

Deputies said they were called to a home on South Robinson Creek Road near Cataldo at about noon, where they found the teen with “extensive facial injuries,” most likely from a shotgun, according to a sheriff’s office news release. Investigators not disclosed if the shooting was self-inflicted.

The teen was airlifted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. It was not immediately known Monday afternoon what condition the boy is in.

Detectives saidno further information would be released on Monday.
