Detectives investigating death of Spokane County Jail inmate
A Spokane County Jail inmate was found dead Thursday morning alone in his cell.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Mark Gregory said the inmate, who was not immediately identified, was discovered by a jailer at about 2:40 a.m. Thursday. The detention services officer immediately called for medical assistance “and life-saving efforts were initiated.”
Spokane City fire and ambulance crews were also called to the jail. “Despite the efforts to revive the male, he was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Gregory said in a news release.
Following protocol, sheriff’s deputies and detectives responded to investigate. Gregory noted that the man had been jailed on several misdemeanor charges and was the “only person in the locked cell.”
The inmate will be later identified by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office, he said.
