Rethink Eagle Ridge development

Adding 240 homes to the Eagle Ridge development can or will cause the following: habitat loss, water pollution, overcrowding of traffic/schools, erosion, etc.

Unfortunately, Fairmont Memorial Park is thinking about selling 110 acres of densely forested land, between Cedar and Cheney-Spokane Road, to Newland Communities, who would develop it. This dazzling wooded wonderland is positioned on a slope leading down to the Spokane-Cheney Memorial Gardens. Without the trees, the slope would quickly deteriorate and become unstable to build on. Currently, the water is absorbed by the lush vegetation, which animals use for homes.

I understand the need for more housing, but clearing this new land is senseless because there is a clear, 100-acre lot lying vacant less than a half-mile away. But how can it be saved? Everyone who isn’t familiar with the acreage should check it out to see its importance to Spokane. Then, contact Fairmont Memorial Park and persuade them not to sell it.

Undermining the importance of our environment is a detrimental decision. It’s time to reestablish who we are and what we stand for. Let’s pull together as a community and protect the things that really matter.
