Refund our tax money

This is a reminder to the citizens of Spokane.

In 1999, 19 years ago; the Parks Department and city told us that there was not enough money to maintain Riverfront Park. We were told that there had to be revenue-generating attractions in the park, and we were asked to purchase the north bank to put those attractions in. It was sold to us as being separated from the main park, the North Bank was ideal for a revenue-generating amusement park. We were told if this did not happen, then Riverfront would fall into disrepair, as there was not enough money.

The voters approved the plan to purchase the north bank, and an amusement park would be put in to generate revenue. It is now 19 years since that vote. Nowhere in the plans for the remodel of Riverfront are there any crucial revenue-generating attractions.

We were told the Imax would be moved to the north bank. Instead, the city wouldn’t update the equipment, and attendance dropped. Now the Imax is gone … poor, poor management. In fact, much of the park lawns will be taken out and paved over for gathering places, with no revenue-generating attractions anywhere that we voted for in 1999.

Refund our tax money please.
