Missing snowshoer found dead in Mount Rainier National Park
YAKIMA, Wash. — A missing snowshoer was found dead Tuesday in Mount Rainier National Park.
A search for the man began Monday evening after he became separated from his partner as the two descended from the Muir Snowfield, according to the National Park Service.
It took dozens of members from the Mountain Rescue Association teams from Everett, Seattle, Tacoma, Olympic and Mount Rainier National Park to find the man’s body at the 4,500-foot elevation in the Nisqually River drainage below Paradise on Tuesday, according to a news release from the national park.
Northwest Helicopters and the military provided air resources.
Park officials did not say how long the man had been missing. The man’s identity was not released, but the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release his name at a later date.
