Suspect identified in sexual assault case at a Starbucks in Spokane

A homeless man reported he was sexually assaulted by another homeless man in a downtown Starbucks earlier this year.

The man reported the assault on Jan. 22 to Spokane police officers, who conducted an interview while the man was staying at the House of Charity, according to court documents. He told officers that earlier in the day, he was approached by a much older male who asked him “do you want to party with me?”

Court documents say the alleged victim agreed and followed the man to a downtown Starbucks, thinking he was either going to get free alcohol or free coffee. After gaining access to the bathroom via a code on the bathroom door, the two entered, which is when the alleged victim said he wasn’t allowed to leave and was assaulted.

The Starbuck’s manager and the alleged victim were able to identify the suspect based on a photo lineup of six different men.

The suspect is currently in Spokane County Jail as suspect in a different case.
