Deputies searching for Geiger Corrections Center inmate who walked away from work detail

UPDATED: Fri., March 30, 2018, 9:50 p.m.

Deputies are searching for a Geiger Corrections Center inmate who walked away from his assigned work detail Thursday afternoon.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that Keith A. Smith, 41, walked away from a work crew near Market Street and Hawthorne Road sometime before 2 p.m. Thursday. Deputies responded to the area to search for Smith and checked his last known address but could not find him, the sheriff’s office said.

Jail records indicate Smith was booked on Sunday. The sheriff’s office said he was being held on a misdemeanor warrant stemming from a 2015 case in which he failed to appear in court.

He is described as a white male, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, with short, balding brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a maroon shirt and blue pants.

The sheriff’s office asked anyone with information about Smith’s whereabouts to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
