Brief alert issued at Eastern Washington University campus following reports of man with gun

UPDATED: Thu., May 3, 2018, 9:37 p.m.

Reports of an individual with a gun prompted the Eastern Washington University Police Department to briefly initiate a lockdown and issue a shelter in place alert Thursday afternoon.

However, the individual was not located and the lockdown was lifted after only a short span of time.

Text messages sent out by the department described reports of a man wearing a black hat, a black shirt, beige shorts and carrying a gun. According to the reports, he was seen in the vicinity of Elm and C streets at the edge of campus in Cheney.

However, an extensive search of the area by university police did not locate the man, and EWUPD lifted its alert.
