Morning prep roundup: University softball knocks off previously unbeaten Central Valley

Softball

University 4, Central Valley 2: Alyssa Benthagen hit a solo home run and the host Titans (13-6, 13-4) knocked off the previously unbeaten Bears (17-1, 16-1) in a Greater Spokane League matchup. Gracie Dwyer went 2 for 3 with an RBI for University and Kelsey Gumm struck out 12 for Central Valley.

Shadle Park 18, Ferris 5: Sky Mangis went 4 for 6 with a triple and six RBIs and the visiting Highlanders (7-11, 7-10) defeated the Saxons (1-18, 1-16). Tayler Hart of Ferris stole five bases.

Gonzaga Prep 20, North Central 4: Maddy DeMarco went 5 for 5 with two doubles and four RBIs and the visiting Bullpups (8-11, 7-10) beat the Indians (2-17, 2-15). Harmony Bay went 2 for 3 with an RBI for North Central.

Mt. Spokane 11, Lewis and Clark 3: Hannah Madsen went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI and the visiting Wildcats (16-3, 15-2) beat the Tigers (8-11, 7-10) at Hart Field. Sophia Tutt also went 2-4 with a home run and two RBI for Mt. Spokane while Taylor John went 2 for 3 with a double for Lewis and Clark. Jesse Dupuis struck out 12 on the hill for the Wildcats.

Mead 8, Rogers 4: Ciara Harding 3 for 4 with a three-run home run and the Panthers (10-9, 10-7) beat the visiting Pirates (8-11, 7-10). Aly Slawter went 2 for 4 for Rogers and Sadie Bocook went 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Mead.

Lakeside 18, Riverside 3: Saelor Dvorak went 4 for 4 with a triple, double, and three RBIs and the visiting Eagles (11-6, 8-3) defeated the Rams (3-13, 2-10) in an Northeast A League game. Lakeside pounded out 21 hits.

Colville 16, Newport 0: Kaitlyn Petrey went 2 for 3 with three RBI and the Indians (9-6, 6-5) beat the visiting Grizzlies (0-10, 0-9). Rylee Merritt was 4 for 4 with three RBIs and Ambrie Jones struck out 10 over five innings of two-hit ball for Colville.

Freeman 12, Medical Lake 8: Hannah Hansen went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and the Scotties (7-7, 5-6) beat the Cardinals (6-10, 4-8). Hannah Petek slugged a pair of home runs and drove in five for Medical Lake.

Chewelah 11, Deer Park 8: Madison Koler went 3 for 5 with two homers and four RBIs and the visiting Cougars (17-0, 11-0) defeated the Stags (11-5, 8-3). Payton Erickson went 3 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs for Deer Park.

Colfax 13, Davenport 3 (Gm 1): Abbie Miller tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts and added a home run and the visiting Bulldogs (12-6) defeated the Gorillas (7-9) in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader.

Davenport 7, Colfax 6 (Gm 2): Sydney Abbott had a triple and two singles and the Gorillas (7-9) beat the visiting Bulldogs (12-6) in the second game of a nonleague doubleheader.

Lake City 10, Sandpoint 0: Emma Gray went 2 for 3 with a double and home run and the Timberwolves (17-5) beat the Bulldogs (6-10) in a nonleague game.

St. Maries 12, Kellogg 5: Devyn Wilson tallied 12 strikeouts and the Lumberjacks (7-0) defeated the visiting Wildcats (0-6) in a nonleague game.

Baseball

Freeman 20, Newport 6: Konnor Freudenthal went 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBI and the visiting Scotties (17-3, 11-1) routed the Grizzlies (2-12, 1-12) in a Northeast A game. Freeman scored nine in the fifth inning and amassed 19 hits.

Chewelah 6, Lakeside 0: Andrew Sweat pitched a one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts and the Cougars (16-3, 12-1) blanked the visiting Eagles (5-14, 4-8) in a Northeast A game.

Deer Park 4, Riverside 2: Kooper Tobeck went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and picked up the save and the visiting Stags (12-5, 9-4) defeated the Rams (7-9, 6-7) in a Northeast A game.

Colville 7, Medical Lake 3: Grant Michalizsyn went 3 for 3 with a double and a run and the Indians (8-10, 7-6) defeated the visiting Cardinals (3-15, 1-12) in a Northeast A game.

Lakeland 11, Timberlake 7: Max Baker went 2 for 3 with a homer and the Hawks (11-10, 1-5) beat the visiting Tigers (11-5, 7-1) in nonleague play. Dylan Bradbury broke the Lakeland single-season doubles record with his 16th double in the first inning.

Potlatch 7, Colton 3: Cameron Bean allowed one earned run and went 2 for 4 with a double and the Wildcats (15-4) beat the Loggers (1-2) in a nonleague game. Jarod Grady hit a solo home run for Potlatch.
