College baseball: Washington State’s Scotty Sunitsch picks up fourth Pac-12 baseball win of season

Scotty Sunitsch fired seven shutout innings and Washington State scored in each of the first four innings in an 8-4 Pac-12 baseball victory over USC at Bailey-Brayton Field in Pullman on Saturday afternoon.

Andres Alvarez and Danny Sinatro hit home runs for the Cougars (15-26-1, 7-15-1 Pac-12) and Dillon Plew had three hits.

Sunitsch worked out of some early trouble and posted seven scoreless innings. He scattered six hits and struck out five in improving to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in Pac-12 play.

USC dropped to 22-23 overall, 10-16 in the conference.

Washington 13, (11) UCLA 6: The Huskies scored four runs in the first inning and added a season-high five home runs later in the game to rout the Bruins at Husky Ballpark.

Joe Wainhouse and Levi Jordan each had a pair of home runs and Nick Kahle added a solo shot, part of a season-high 18 hits for the Huskies (24-21, 14-9 Pac-12) as they evened the series against the Bruins (31-15, 15-8).

Wainhouse went 4-for-5 with five RBI and four runs scored; Jordan was 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Freshmen Braiden Ward and Jonathan Schiffer both had a season-high three hits.

Junior Joe DeMers (5-3) cruised through eight innings on the mound, allowing two earned runs on seven hits.

Columbia Basin 8-3, CC Spokane 7-9: Marcus Cain pitched six strong innings for the win and Gabe Martin drove in three runs as the Sasquatch earned a doubleheader split at SFCC.

CCS (33-13, 20-8 NWAC) finished the regular season in second place in the East Region, the highest finish for the Sasquatch since 2007.

CCS will host a crossover regional beginning Friday at 3 p.m. The Sasquatch play at noon on Saturday.
