PULLMAN – Freshman safety D’Angelo McKenzie announced Friday afternoon on Twitter he’d been granted his release from the Cougars football program and will look to transfer elsewhere.

McKenzie came to WSU as a three-star recruit from Valley Christian in San Jose, California. Per 247Sports.com, he held offers from a handful of Power Five schools including Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State, Notre Dame, UCLA and Utah.

McKenzie was redshirting for the Cougars this season as a true freshman. He becomes the second player to leave the WSU program this week. Former four-star wide receiver prospect Drue Jackson announced he’d be transferring on Tuesday.
