Semi flips on I-90 after being struck by passing driver; DUI suspected

A Washington State Patrol vehicle (SR)

A driver attempting a shoulder pass struck a semitruck on Interstate 90 early Saturday morning, causing the semi to flip onto its side, blocking all eastbound lanes of traffic near the Evergreen exit in Spokane Valley. The driver of the passing vehicle fled the scene on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested the man, Isaiah J. Antoine, 26, on suspicion of DUI, according to Washington State Patrol. Speed was also a factor in the crash, according to WSP.

Antoine, driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, attempted to pass a semitruck on the right shoulder of the highway. He hit the semitruck, and both vehicles hit the center barrier. The semi flipped and blocked I-90 Eastbound for about seven hours until crews could clear the wreck.

Antoine was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, and was later booked into Spokane County Jail. A passenger in Antoine’s car was injured but released at the scene.

The driver of the semi also suffered minor injuries but was released at the scene.
