Check station reports low success for Washington’s late deer season

Washington’s late deer season closed Monday.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Deer Park check station showed low hunter success, said Annemarie Prince, the wildlife biologist for District 1.

“Not sure why success was so low, but hunting weather wasn’t ideal and may have played a role,” she said in an email.

Ninety-six hunters came through the check station with 16 white tail bucks for a success rate of 16.6 percent. In 2017, 124 hunters bagged 43 bucks for a 34.7 percent success rate, Prince said. In 2016, 79 hunters took 17 deer for a 22 percent success rate.
