Driver dies after crashing into tree west of Spokane

A woman died Friday morning after her vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree west of Spokane.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said no other vehicles were involved in the crash, which was reported at about 7:30 a.m. The woman’s vehicle was reportedly traveling south on Assembly Road when it left the roadway and crashed near the intersection of Assembly and Tamarack roads.

Deputies and firefighters provided emergency medical attention, but the driver, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash had not been determined as of Friday afternoon, but a witness told deputies the woman’s car appeared to have been speeding before it crashed. Traffic investigators found she was not wearing a seat belt.
