Two men die when car crashes into canal near Yelm

Two Yelm men died Wednesday when their car crashed into a canal on state Route 507, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Both men died at the scene. Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock on Thursday identified the driver as 20-year-old Jeremiah Yeagley and the passenger as 26-year-old Antony Morgan.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. On Thursday, detectives were interviewing potential witnesses.

Autopsies are scheduled for Friday.

According to State Patrol, the men were northbound on Route 507 near Vail Road Southeast about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday when their 1989 Toyota pickup left the road to the right, struck a cement barrier and ended up in a canal full of water.

A canal maintenance foreman with Centralia City Light arrived at about 9 a.m. to inspect the canal and noticed a fence along the road was broken. The water level was lowered to see if a vehicle went into the canal and that is when the pickup was discovered.

The foreman called 911. Traffic was blocked for about 30 minutes later in the day as crews cleared the scene, according to WSP.

Warnock said the men were on their way to work when they crashed.
