Gonzaga’s Josh Perkins named to Cousy Award watch list

Gonzaga senior Josh Perkins on Monday was named to the watch list for the Bob Cousy Award, presented annually to the top point guard in college basketball.

Perkins is one of 20 players on the watch list. The list will be cut in half in mid-February.

Perkins, a two-time All-WCC selection, averaged 12.3 points and 5.3 assists last season for the Zags, who finished 32-5 and reached the Sweet 16. He led the WCC with a 3.3 assist-to-turnover ratio in conference games. He paced the Zags with 1.2 steals per game and scored in double figures in 27 games.

Perkins has been on the WCC All-Academic team for the last two years. The Park Hill, Colorado, native has played in 116 games, including 108 starts, at Gonzaga.

Perkins is joined on the watch list by Michigan State’s Cassius Winston and Tennessee’s Jordan Bone. Gonzaga scrimmages against the Spartans on Oct. 27 and faces the Volunteers on Dec. 9 in Phoenix. Other watch list representatives and potential Gonzaga foes at the Maui Invitational include Duke’s Tre Jones and Auburn’s Jared Harper.

Villanova’s Jalen Brunson won the Cousy Award last season.
