Morning prep roundup: University, Gonzaga Prep earn volleyball wins with district tourney approaching

Volleyball

University 3, Central Valley 1: Kylie Turner had 14 kills, Joli Poplawski added 24 assists and the visiting Titans (7-2) beat the Bears (3-6) in four sets (18-25, 25-17, 25-14, 27-25).

Gonzaga Prep 3, Ferris 0: Ashlyn O’Keefe had 30 digs and the Bullpups (7-2) beat the visiting Saxons (4-5) in straight sets (25-11, 25-15, 25-21).

Soccer

East Valley 4, Clarkston: Kaitlin Harvey scored twice while Chloe Gellhaus added a goal with three assists and the visiting first-place Knights (10-1-0-0) beat the Bantams (4-7-3-0) in Great Northern League play on Thursday.

Cheney 4, West Valley 0: Kaitlin Teeters scored two goals and the visiting Blackhawks (7-5-0-2) beat the Eagles (7-4-0-0).

Slowpitch

Central Valley 5, Mead 4: Grace Stumbough had three hits and the visiting sixth-seeded Bears (12-9) eliminated the third-seeded Panthers (15-6) in a Greater Spokane League tournament first-round game on Thursday. Central Valley advances to face top-seeded University (20-0) on Monday.

Lewis and Clark 7, Rogers 5: Darby Rickel’s two-run homer to center field in the seventh gave the visiting fifth-seeded Tigers (12-9) a win over the fourth-seeded Pirates (13-8) in a district playoff opener. LC will travel to meet second-seeded Mt. Spokane (16-4) on Monday.
