Carson Doyle threw two touchdown passes and Shadle Park (4-5, 3-0) surprised Mt. Spokane (7-2, 2-1) – ranked fourth in state – 14-11 in the GSL 3A title game at Albi Stadium on Friday.

“We trust our defense,” Shadle Park coach Jim Mace said. “Our defense has been nails for the last six-seven weeks. Offensively we said if we can get a lead on them we knew we could hold them down.”

Shadle Park earns the first 3A seed and a home game in the playoffs next week against the Mid-Columbia Conference second seed, while Mt. Spokane will travel to the MCC champion.

“We accomplished one goal,” Mace said. “Now we have to reset our goals.”

Doyle hooked up with his brother Logan on a 17-yard scoring play in the first and capped a 10-play, 68-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Klouse Albers with just over 6 minutes left to play.

Tommy Madill’s TD run and a two-point conversion drew the Wildcats within three with 3:57 left. They had two more possessions but turned it over on downs both occasions.

Mt. Spokane quarterback Brady Hill, making his first start since since injury in Week 3, went 21 of 34 for 187 yards. In five GSL games, Mt. Spokane had thrown an average of 13 passes. Hill ran nine times for 39 yards.
