Driver killed after being ejected from van in crash southeast of Cheney

A driver was killed early Sunday morning southeast of Cheney when he crashed and was ejected from his vehicle.

Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene of the one-vehicle collision at 35708 S. Wells Road at about 2:15 a.m., where they found that the van had hit a power pole, rolled, and the driver was ejected. There were no other occupants.

Deputies believe the van was traveling south on Wells when the driver lost control in a curve, causing the van to cross the center line and leave the roadway. Speed, intoxication and lack of seat belt are believed to have been factors in the crash.

Medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Wells Road was closed for several hours due to a downed power line while Inland Power made repairs.

Danforth, one of five people fatally shot by officers last year, was the only one who fired a weapon at police before he was killed.
