Eastern Washington won its final two matches at the Pirate Invitational in Greenville, North Carolina, to improve to 7-3 for the first time since 2006.
EWU sophomores Kamille Langford and Puaoolelagi Sau were named to the all-tournament team. Langford had 31 kills and seven blocks, and Sau added 44 digs in the three matches.
EWU’s Alexandra Espinosa had 13 kills in a 3-1 win over Charlotte to start the day.
Catelyn Linke had five aces and Samantha Boever 26 assists in the Eagles’ afternoon sweep of Gardner-Webb.
- Host Washington State (6-0) cruised to a pair of win during the first day of the Cougar Challenge in Pullman. McKenna Woodford and Taylor Mims had nine kills apiece during an opening 3-0 sweep of McNeese State (0-8). Jocelyn Urias had 18 kills and Ashley Brown added 41 assists – giving her 75 for the day – in the Cougars’ 3-1 win over Illinois State (6-2).
- Sarah Sharp, Reece Carman and Kaela Straw combined for 46 kills to power Idaho (5-3) to a 3-1 win over San Diego State (1-7) at the Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Challenge in Honolulu. Haylee Mathis added 52 assists and Alycia Wodke 34 digs for the Vandals.
- Whitworth rebounded from its first loss of the season for a 3-1 win over Transylvania (1-5) at the Emory National Tournament in Atlanta. NCAA Division III 25th-ranked Berry (3-1) defeated Whitworth (5-1) to open the day. Pirates Lauren Budde and Jessica Schmautz totaled 18 kills apiece on the day. Erin White added 56 assists, including 39 against Transylvania.
- Host Community Colleges of Spokane (10-0) and North Idaho (5-4) both finished 3-0 during the first day of the Bigfoot Classic at Spokane Falls CC. CCS will meet Bellevue and NIC will play Edmonds to start the championship bracket Saturday.
