A suspect appeared in court Friday following a Thursday night shooting in north central Spokane that left a woman seriously injured.
Jeremy Mallgren’s bail was set at $500,000 on two counts of first-degree assault.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at 2400 N. Calispel St. and arrested Mallgren, 32, and another person, according to a Spokane police news release. Shortly after, officers received a report of two victims a block away, and found an SUV with broken windows and bullet holes. The other person arrested was not identified.
The woman, who also was not identified, is 40 years old and suffered “several gunshot wounds to her torso,” the release states. A 29-year-old man in the car with her had no gunshot wounds but suffered minor injuries. The woman was taken to a hospital.
Detectives determined that the pair were parked in the SUV at a nearby residence when Mallgren approached them, later telling authorities he had been investigating what he considered a suspicious vehicle. Mallgren allegedly began to argue with the man and they began to fight; Mallgren then retrieved a rifle from his house and fired it at the SUV several times as it s drove away, the release says.
