Body found in Spokane River

From staff reports

A body was found in the Spokane River east of Harvard Road Saturday.

At around 11:20 a.m., deputies responded to reports from a passer-by of a body off the shoreline.

Due to the unknown circumstances of the death, Major Crimes detectives are conducting an investigation.

It is not currently known whether the passer-by who spotted the body was participating in the Spokane River Clean-Up event, which brought several hundred people to the river in Spokane and parts of Spokane Valley Saturday to collect trash.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner will release the decedent’s identity and believed cause of death at a later date.
