College soccer: Whitworth women open Northwest Conference play with shutout win

Hannah Rae Miller scored an unassisted goal in the 70th minute Saturday to give Whitworth a 1-0 win over Pacific Lutheran in a Northwest Conference women’s soccer opener in Tacoma.

Molly Webster had two saves to register the shutout.

The Pirates improved to 3-1-1; the Lutes are 1-1-3.

Whitworth continues conference play Sunday at Puget Sound.

North Idaho 7, Wenatchee Valley 0: Ellory Ferris scored twice in the second half and added a first-half goal to guide the host Cardinals (3-3-2, 3-1-0) Northwest Athletic Conference) past the Knights (0-5-2, 0-4-0).

Autumn Stewart began the scoring in the 15th minute, intercepting a back pass and beating the goalkeeper 1-on-1. A little more than 5 minutes later, Linnea Pretzer made it 2-0 with a shot from about 28 yards out.

CC Spokane 1, Yakima Valley 0: Gaby Kennedy scored an unassisted goal in the 71st minute to lift the Sasquatch (6-2-1, 4-0-0 NWAC) past the Yaks (5-1-1, 2-1-1) at Spokane Falls CC.

Men

Wenatchee Valley 3, North Idaho: Johan Espinoza scored a pair of unassisted goals to carry the visiting Knights (3-2-1, 1-2-0 NWAC) past the Cardinals (1-5-1, 1-1-1).

NIC’s Luis Hernandez had 12 saves.
