Seattle’s Kinski returns to Spokane with two new projects

Seattle’s mostly-instrumental rock quartet Kinski was just in Spokane in March, playing the Observatory with Wimps, Tissue and Peru Rush (who are also opening this show).

But this show, Friday at the Bartlett, comes with two new surprises.

In celebration of the band’s two decades together, Olympia-born, Portland-based label Kill Rock Stars will reissue a double LP of the band’s debut full-length “Be Gentle with the Warm Turtle.”

But that reissue is only to tide fans over until the Oct. 12 release of “Accustomed to Your Face,” the band’s first record since 2015’s “7 (or 8).”

Bassist Lucy Atkinson, guitarist Chris Martin, guitarist/keyboardist/flutist Matthew Reid Schwartz and drummer Barrett Wilke recorded “Accustomed to Your Face” at El Studio in San Francisco with Phil Manley (Trans Am, Les Savy Fav, Rye Coalition, Oneida), who the band has worked with before.

The album was tracked and mixed in 10 days, and in August, the band gave fans a first look at the record, releasing “Kinski 101” and “Guest Guitar Vocalist,” featuring Atkinson on vocals.

But that’s not all, according to Kinski.

“There is a lot more coming up in Nov & Dec, with a release that some people will be really excited about as well!” the band wrote on its website in August.
