Is there a Lese Trump law?
It appears that Trump considers the Department of Justice a combination of his own personal lawyers and his own private investigators. His tweeted demands for action or inaction are blatantly political. For instance, don’t proceed with an investigation that might endanger two House seats with Republicans. Also, investigate the infamous New York Times’ op-ed article.
The United States does not have any lese majeste laws, at least yet. It would be useful for someone to identify what law or laws were actually violated in the publication of that op-ed. Criticism of the president is not treason. The Constitution says in Section Three: “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.” It would take an unbelievable stretch to turn criticism of Trump into adhering to, say, Russia.
If criticism of the president is treason, then all of Fox News was a hotbed of treason during the entire Obama administration.
