‘Rodentia’ launches Indiegogo campaign

In 2012, Spokane got its first taste of the world of “Rodentia.”

The short film, originally created for a timed competition, follows three young men having a “bummer summer.”

But when a lab experiment gone wrong is dumped into the local river, the trio’s lazy Fourth of July becomes anything but ordinary.

“Rodentia,” a Make Out With Us production, is written and directed by Garrett Elmer.

According to Elmer, “Rodentia” is a comedic homage to low-budget horror films of the ‘60s and ‘80s.

Years after that short film competition, the team wants to expand “Rodentia” into a feature film. To help, Elmer has launched an Indiegogo campaign with the goal of raising $10,000.

Elmer majored in film at Eastern Washington University and shot his thesis film, a Western, for $1,000.

“It had a successful festival run, and I figured that with a budget ten times bigger I could produce my first feature,” Elmer wrote on Indiegogo.

The movie stars Logan Burke, Edward Casto, Adam Gaulke and Cameron Gorman.

The crew includes producers Rachel Baker (who works as an editorial assistant for The Spokesman-Review) and Kendra Ann Sherrill, filmmaker Gaulke and Gorman, who will compose the film’s score.

Fans who donate to the campaign have their choice of perks. For a $10 donation, supporters will receive a personalized shout out on social media, a production newsletter with behind-the-scenes photos and videos and a “Rodentia” button.

A $100 donation earns an invite to the first screening and wrap party, and for $250, local supporters will have a role in the film. Those who don’t live in Spokane can write a one- to two-page “Rodentia” fan fiction, which the crew will film.

And if you donate the entire $10,000, you’ll be named a producer of “Rodentia,” plus have “(your name) presents” in the credits before the title card. You can also come to set on the day of your choosing and help out.
