Trump vs. a patriot

Concerning the August 18 article, “U.S. Newspapers to Trump: we’re not enemies of the people.”

This is reminiscent of the Nixon administration attacking the media. President Trump appears to have a very poor understanding of our federal constitution. Our Founding Fathers understood the absolute necessity of a free press to a republic and included that right in the first amendment to our federal constitution.

Further, Trump even wants to regulate Google to further stifle negative news reports. Trump’s attorney recently state that “truth is not truth” - a bizarre statement. A free press is needed to determine what is factual and what is not.

Concerning Sen. McCain, a war hero, a great patriot and over thirty years in public service to our nation. Trump denigrated Sen. McCain because he was captured during the Vietnam War. Mr. McCain’s aircraft was shot down while on a mission over Hanoi. During ejection his legs and shoulders were broken and upon capture he was severely beaten and tortured and was held captive for over five years. He was offered early release but refused unless his fellow U.S. captives were released as well.

And where was Trump when U.S. soldiers were dodging hot lead in Vietnam? Hiding behind Daddy’s money with college deferments.
