Eastern Washington has a history of clutch performances in Bozeman

Vernon Adams’ 2-point conversion sucked the air out of Bobcat Stadium when he crossed the goal line in the 2014 game’s waning moments.

Montana State fans went silent after Erik Meyer orchestrated a second-half comeback in 2004, helping Eastern Washington dispatch Montana State in overtime.

The Eagles, who have won 14 of their last 18 meetings with Montana State, have had some their most clutch moments in Bozeman in recent years.

Fifth-ranked EWU (3-1, 1-0 Big Sky Conference) travels to Montana State (3-1,1-0) again on Saturday. Here are some of the Eagles’ wildest wins in Bozeman since 2000.

2004: Eastern Washington 51, Montana State 44 (OT)

The stakes? A share of the Big Sky Conference title and a postseason berth.

The result? An epic November road win behind the arm of Meyer.

The Eagles were down three touchdowns against Travis Lulay and the No. 25 Bobcats, but Meyer and receiver Eric Kimble rallied the Eagles to overtime.

On the second play of overtime, Meyer found Craig McIntyre in the end zone for the go-ahead score. EWU’s defense clamped up on the ensuing possession, and the Eagles clipped MSU at Bobcat Stadium.

Meyer passed for 372 yards and five touchdowns and Kimble hauled in 10 passes for 196 yards and three scores.

2014: Eastern Washington 52, Montana State 51

The second-ranked Eagles trailed 51-44 in the final 2 minutes, but the electric Adams marched the Eagles 80 yards to the end zone. EWU opted for a 2-point conversion and the win, and Adams delivered.

When Adams took the snap and couldn’t find an open receiver, he shifted around the pocket, bolted forward and dived across the goal line, shocking Bobcat Stadium’s 19,000 fans.

2012: Eastern Washington 27, Montana State 24

Montana State quarterback DeNarius McGhee and the second-ranked Bobcats had a late third-quarter lead and the ball before No. 6 EWU’s defense turned the tide.

Dylan Zylstra blocked a punt and Evan Day recovered in the end zone. The Eagles added another defensive touchdown when Jordan Tonani picked off McGhee and scored.

2000: Eastern Washington 20, Montana State 14

In former EWU head coach Mike Kramer’s first year at Montana State after leaving Cheney, his Bobcats outgained the Eagles in nearly offensive category.

But first-year EWU head coach Paul Wulff was able to beat his old boss on MSU homecoming after his defense generated points.

Montana State kicker Ryan Wilcox tried to add on to a late lead with a field goal, but it was blocked, and Alvin Tolliver returned it 67 yards for the go-ahead score.
