Mac Lardner, Alek Jacob pitch Gonzaga past Pacific

Mac Lardner fired seven shutout innings and Alek Jacob pitched two scoreless innings for his seventh save of the season to lead the Gonzaga Bulldogs to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Pacific Tigers in Northwest Conference baseball action on Sunday.

Lardner (2-3) allowed four hits and a walk, striking out three to help Gonzaga (14-14, 7-5) win the rubber game of the the three-game series.

The Bulldogs scored two runs in the second inning against Pacific (16-16, 4-8) starter Ryan Shreve (3-2). Mason Marenco had a leadoff single, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt and scoring on a double by Nick Nyquist. Nyquist stole third base and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Machtolf.

Gonzaga’s final run came in the bottom of the sixth when Guthrie Morrison doubled, advanced to third on a flyout and scored on a sac fly by Austin Pinorini.

The Bulldogs hit the road for a three-game WCC series against the Portland Pilots beginning Friday.
