Inside the Voyage: Mendoza Mashing and Making an Impact

Hailey Sutton SWX
Harvin Mendoza is having the season of his dreams. Currently leading the team in hits, batting average, and tied for the lead in home runs, it’s safe to say Mendoza is becoming a house hold name in the Electric City. “It’s very fun for me because I work in the off-season and I see the results I have so I try to be consistent in my work.” said Mendoza. Mendoza’s success is great for himself, but that’s not what the 20-year-old Caracas native is focused on the team. “Personally, you can help the team and it’s very good. Everybody wants to win, I don’t know anyone who wants to lose. Who likes to lose? I don’t think anybody.” Success for Mendoza has led him to learn new things about himself and find motivations as well. “Follow your dreams keep working hard,” he said. “If you have a bad day, a good day you have to keep working towards what you want. My goal is to keep working for my family that is my big goal and my motivation.” In addition to being a great player on the field, Mendoza has been shining off the field and in the clubhouse as well. “He’s a great dude, guys feed off of him. He’s a good clubhouse guy, always laughing and smiling, picking people up,” said Voyagers hitting coach Cameron Seitzer. Mendoza has been rewarded for his terrific performance this year by being named an All-Star for the Voyagers and he says it’s truly an honor. “When the manager told me I was going to the All-Star game, I was very happy. After that, I called my family and I said I made the all-star team. I’m very happy,” said Mendoza. The All-Star game will take place at Memorial Stadium in Boise, Idaho. The Voyagers will return to Centene on August 8th for an eight-game home stand, including series with both Grand Junction & Rocky Mountain.
