Man dies in rollover crash in Okanogan County

A man died Friday morning in a rollover crash on a highway in Okanogan County that involved no other vehicles.

The Washington State Patrol identified the man as Joseph R. Gutierrez, a 43-year-old Tonasket resident, on Saturday morning.

Gutierrez was driving a 2001 Land Rover Discovery II north on Highway 155 when he crashed about 6 miles north of Nespelem, according to the WSP.

The WSP said the SUV “left the roadway to the right for an unknown reason, traveled approximately 75 yards and struck rocks” before reentering the roadway and rolling over twice.

The crash was reported at about 9:40 a.m. and Gutierrez, who had been wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the WSP. Troopers were investigating whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
