Spokane Public Schools announces 2-hour delay

Spokane Public Schools announced it will start 2-hours late on Wednesday.

Most Spokane County school districts will open on schedule. Besides Spokane, only Freeman and Liberty have announced 2-hour delays.

The list of districts in the Inland Northwest delayed or closed is much shorter than Tuesday, but still signficant. A full list if available here.

Only about a half inch of snow fell at the National Weather Service’s Spokane office on the West Plains from Tuesday evening to 6 a.m., said Mark Turner, meteorologist.

But state Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed a range of road conditions from bare-and-wet to snow-covered as of 6 a.m.

“Neighborhood conditions currently are varying widely throughout the city, so please use caution,” said Spokane Public Schools spokesman Brian Coddington in a recorded phone message to parents announcing the delay.

North Idaho College’s main campus in Coeur d’Alene is open on Wednesday but its outreach centers in Bonners Ferry, Sandpoint and the Silver Valley are closed.

Eastern Washington University, Gonzaga University, Whitworth University, Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College announced that they will be on regular schedules.

After two days of record snowfall, the Spokane area should see some respite from the white stuff as Wednesday looks to be mostly dry and cold, with little chance of precipitation.

However from Thursday to Saturday night, another storm system is expected to hit the Inland Northwest, bringing a mix of snow, freezing rain, sleet and rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Early next week, cold air is expected to slip into the region with overnight lows in the teens.
