New jail might be too big

The is written in response to the new jail proposed by Spokane County Commissioner Al French. If care is not taken, it will be overbuilt.

The current facility was built to handle the crime wave caused by drug prohibition. To afford to buy monopoly-priced drugs, customers commit burglaries, shoplifting, prostitution and drug pushing.

Soon, America will end its 103-year-old drug prohibition. When it does, the prohibition-related crimes will cease, leaving only the natural baseline of crimes. I wonder how low that is.

I wonder how small a jail the county will need.
