GSL boys: Anton Watson scores 22 points to help Gonzaga Prep outlast Lewis and Clark

Anton Watson scored 22 points, including key late free throws, and visiting Gonzaga Prep outlasted Lewis and Clark 62-56 in a Greater Spokane League matchup Friday.

G-Prep, the defending 4A state champion, is rated No. 2 in 4A by the WIAA RPI system.

LC’s Griffin Effenberger made 1 of 2 at the line to tie the score at 52 with less than a minute to play. Watson made both ends of a 1-and-1, then Sheadon Byrd made a three-point play to give the Bullpups (12-2, 8-0) a five-point lead to stave off the upset.

Byrd finished with 10 points. Liam Lloyd had 13 points and Carter Sonneborn added 11 for G-Prep.

Ben Merritt led the Tigers (4-10, 1-7) with 17 points and Effenberger finished with 15 – including three 3-pointers.

Mt. Spokane 62, Ferris 41: Tyson Degenhart scored 27 points and the Wildcats (13-1, 5-1), rated No. 2 in state 3A, handled the Saxons (10-4, 5-3).

JT Smith scored 12 points and Jerry Twenge added 11 for Mt. Spokane.

McCoy Spink led Ferris, rated fourth in 4A, with 11 points.

University 53, North Central 50: Marcus Lenker scored 19 points and the Titans (10-4, 5-3) held off the visiting Indians (6-8. 2-4).

Logan Phillips added 13 points for U-Hi.

Leon Sayers led all scorers with 25 points for North Central.

Central Valley 69, Rogers 37: Noah Sanders and Josh Wilson scored 11 points apiece and the Bears (9-5, 5-3) downed the visiting Pirates (4-11, 1-5).

Gavin Gilstrap added nine points and seven rebounds for Central Valley.

Cody Downey led Rogers with seven points.

Shadle Park 77, Mead 67: DaMarius Brown scored 21 points, Nian Allen added 20 and the visiting Highlanders (9-5, 2-4) topped the Panthers (3-11, 2-6).

Tavion Rainwater finished with 18 points for Shadle Park.

Tyson Rogalette led Mead with 28 points and Sam Wenkheimer added 12.
