Franklin Elementary School on the South Hill was put under a brief and partial lockdown Thursday morning.

Brian Coddington, spokesman for Spokane Public Schools, said the building’s doors were locked at around 8:45 a.m. as a result of reports of a suicidal man with a gun in the area.

Officer John O’Brien with the Spokane Police Department said the man was in the area of 17th Avenue and Regal Street. After a few minutes, officers were able to diffuse the situation and the man was taken into custody.

Coddington said the lock down was lifted at 9 a.m.
