Drag a wonderful art
As always, I applaud the Spokesman-Review for its diversity in reporting as well as opinions/editorial section. I read the entire paper. I don’t agree with everything but always learn something.
That said, I have read some truly wonderful things about drag queens recently. What a wonderful art! I loved doing local theater years ago, and dressing up with make-up and fancy hair styles was great fun! Who didn’t dress up as kids with Mom’s make-up and hats? And sometimes it was boys and sometimes girls didn’t.
The joy of learning something new, however, was challenged by the opinion article written by Anna Bohach (“It is long past time to take off the dress,” June 14). I’m glad it was published, as I think it’s important to read all views. I was saddened to see that Anna did not accept an invitation to the library’s panel discussion. I’m sure they would have let her bring a friend if she felt unsafe, but I truly believe she had nothing to fear but her own self-inflicted anger and discomfort. We all feel it initially to something strange and new, but isn’t it best to learn and embrace?
That also being said, please don’t disparage Bugs Bunny. I was fortunate to have cartoons as a kid and he was my hero. He was clever and smart but didn’t always get away with it. Also, I voted for him for president in 2016. He’s just a Wiley Wabbit! Carry on, Mel Blanc (1908-1989).
