Washington added 6,000 jobs in June; employment growth driven by education, health services

Washington state added 6,000 jobs in June with employment growth led by the increase in the education and health services sector.

Private sector employment grew by 5,400 jobs, while the public sector gained 600 jobs in June, according to the Washington State Employment Security Department.

Education and health services added 2,500 jobs, the information sector gained 1,600 jobs and manufacturing added 1,300 jobs in June.

The construction sector reported a drop of 800 jobs, wholesale trade lost 600 jobs, leisure and hospitality dropped 300 jobs and financial activities lost 100 jobs last month.

The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.6%, while the national unemployment rate was 3.7% in June.

The state’s labor force increased by 96,000 people since June 2018.
