Spokane County closes Euclid Road bridge in Airway Heights

Spokane County closed the Euclid Road bridge in Airway Heights because of a critical failure in its supporting structure.

The county last week placed a 5-ton weight restriction on the bridge, which is owned by BNSF Railway Corp. and located between Hayford and Lyons roads.

“After more extensive examination, it was determined that even with a 5-ton wight restriction, it is not safe,” said Martha Lou Wheatley-Billeter, spokeswoman for the county’s public works department. “We closed it to motorists for public safety.”

BNSF indicated it plans to repair the bridge this summer, but a timeline has not been established, according to the county.

“We are currently conducting our own inspection and based on our findings, we will develop a plan of action,” BNSF spokeswoman Courtney Wallace, said in an email. “We are in communications with Spokane County as we work safely to address the bridge.”
