Following a new musical interest brought Cayucas to ‘Real Life’

Twins Zach and Ben Yudin, who perform as Cayucas, had written a dozen surf-rock-y demos, reminiscent of the tunes on their debut album, “Bigfoot,” when they realized something just didn’t feel right.

“The magic wasn’t in the air, and we were somewhat forcing it,” Zach said in a press statement.

But instead of forcing square pegs into round holes, the brothers decided to scrap the material it had written for its third album and start again.

Following an interest in pop music resulted in the song “Winter of ‘98,” and the Yudins realized they were on the right track.

“Those are the moments that any creative person is hoping for, where you get really excited about an idea that seems to be working,” Zach said. “Everything changed at that point.”

With that song as a launching off point, the pair’s third album, “Real Life,” began to take shape.

The album, which was released in April, deals with the idea of nostalgia, and brings the brothers to the Bartlett on Sunday.
