Gonzaga’s Rui Hachimura named semifinalist for Naismith Trophy

Gonzaga junior forward Rui Hachimura is one of 10 semifinalists for the Naismith Trophy player of year.

GU forward Brandon Clarke, who was one of 30 candidates on the Naismith midseason list released three weeks ago, didn’t make the final 10.

Hachimura, named the WCC Player of the Year on Tuesday, averages 20.6 points and 6.6 rebounds. He’s made 61.3 percent of his field-goal attempts and 46.7 percent on 3-pointers.

Other finalists include Duke’s R.J. Barrett and Zion Williamson, Purdue’s Carsen Edwards, Marquette’s Markus Howard, Kansas’ Dedric Lawson, Murray State’s Ja Morant, Kentucky’s P.J. Washington, Tennessee’s Grant Williams and Michigan State’s Cassius Winston.

Four finalists will be announced on March 19. From March 22 through April 3, fans will have a chance to vote by visiting naismithtrophy.com/vote. The Naismith Trophy will be presented during the Final Four in Minneapolis.
