Man critical of rest-stop custodian leads to drawn gun, arrest

From staff reports

Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man after he confronted a custodian at an Interstate 90 rest stop and told him he was doing a bad job. It eventually led to the custodian pulling a gun, according to a report by KHQ-TV.

The suspect, Craig Sherman, 62, of Coeur d’Alene, has had prior issues with the custodian, according to the report, because he doesn’t clean the restrooms well and he leaves the handicapped restroom locked.

Sherman confronted him at the Huetter rest area on eastbound I-90 at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The custodian, Jesse Ansorge, told Sherman he was trespassing. Sherman yelled and followed him, KHQ reported.

Ansorge pulled a gun, and Sherman yelled to shoot him. Ansorge later said he never pointed the gun at Sherman and he had no intention of shooting him. Ansorge later told deputies he was pushed by Sherman.

Ansorge fled and called police, who later located the two men separately.

Deputies did not arrest Ansorge after concluding he acted in self-defense, KHQ reported.
