Montana Western guard Brianna King – a product of North Central and Community Colleges of Spokane – was named the NAIA Player of the Year on Wednesday by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

The 5-foot-5 senior averages 22 points for the fourth-ranked Bulldogs (25-4), who opened the NAIA D-I Tournament with a 89-69 victory Wednesday in Billings against Georgetown (Kentucky) College.

“The impact she has made on our program will never be forgotten,” Montana Western coach Lindsay Woolley said in a team release. “I think this award cements her status as one of the best players to pass through our program at Montana Western and I feel fortunate to have coached her.”

King was an All-America first-team selection last season after leading the Bulldogs to the national semifinals, fueled by her 40-point effort in the quarterfinals.

The 2014 NC graduate has scored 2,564 career points in her collegiate career and set the CCS scoring record in 2017 when she led the Sasquatch to the Northwest Athletic Conference Tournament championship.
