A Spokane doctor who was vacationing in Hawaii was reported to have died Sunday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Coast guardsmen responded to a call from a tugboat that a body was floating facedown off Kalapaki Bay. A Kaua’i Station response boat arrived on scene and performed CPR.

Dr. Evan Forsnes, 53, was taken to emergency services where he was pronounced dead, Coast Guard officer Matthew West said.

Providence Health Care confirmed that Forsnes worked as an obstetrics and gynecology doctor. According to Providence’s website, Forsnes attended medical school at the University of Washington.
