City Hall not for homeless

In regards to our City Council considering opening City Hall to the homeless population: this is the worst idea ever!

I have as much empathy as the next person but I am tired of seeing people sitting on street corners. A friend who lives by Underhill Park has to clean up feces and needles and is so fed up, he’s considering moving. I see people downtown who, at least to me, obviously want that life: living on the streets. Decent clothes, etc. Of course, there are those who really need help. But to open City Hall during the day? Look at what’s happening with the library. I refuse to let my 91-year-old Mom go there.

So many of these people do not want help. They want a handout. I know because I was there over 20 years ago. The mindset was “Let’s see what we can get for free.” I realized that wasn’t the life I wanted but I knew a lot of people who did. And I would wager money that if the city of Spokane opens City Hall, it will be a nightmare. Employees will be threatened and the public won’t feel safe.

It’s time to stop pandering to the homeless. There are so many resources out there. City Hall shouldn’t be one of them.
