Daniel Fredrickson’s 3-run homer caps 5-run ninth as Zags rally past Toreros

Daniel Fredrickson smacked a two-out, three-run home run to cap a five-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Gonzaga Bulldogs rallied for an 11-9 victory over the San Diego Toreros in West Coast Conference play on Sunday at the Patterson Baseball Complex.

The Bulldogs (12-12, 5-4 WCC) took 6-5 lead into the top of the ninth inning, but Chris McCready, who had four hits on the day, belted a grand slam to put the Toreros (18-10, 4-5) up 9-6.

Troy Johnston singled to lead off the bottom of the ninth and moved to third on a double by Austin Pinorini. After a pitching change, Brett Harris greeted reliever Nate Walker with a two-run double to pull the Bulldogs within a run. Carson Breshears drew a one-out walk and after pinch-hitter Isaac Barrera flied out to left for the second out, Fredrickson stepped to the plate and delivered the game-winner.

Harris had a two-run double in the first and walked twice for the Zags. Johnston added an RBI double and scored three runs.

Gonzaga travels to Pullman on Tuesday to play the WSU Cougars in a nonconference tilt before hosting the Pacific Tigers in a three-game WCC series beginning Friday.
