Prep softball: Central Valley downs University to secure top GSL 4A seed at districts

Greater Spokane League

Central Valley 3, University 0: Cheyenne Parker went the distance, striking out nine, and the visiting Bears (12-2) blanked the Titans (12-2) on Thursday.

Carly Imes homered for Central Valley, which secured the top GSL 4A seed to the District 8 tournament, which starts on May 7. The Bears beat U-Hi in both their matchups this season.

Tammya Campbell struck out nine for University.

Lewis and Clark 2, Mead 1: Kylie Pester had 13 strikeouts and the Tigers (8-6) edged the visiting Panthers (6-8) at Hart Field on Thursday. LC earned the GSL’s third seed to the district playoffs, while Mead will be the fourth seed. Sarah Moline had two hits and scored a run for LC.

Ferris 6, Gonzaga Prep 5: Katelyn Strauss hit a walk-off double and the Saxons (4-10) beat the visiting Bullpups (3-11). Jordan Whitten singled ahead of Strauss’ walkoff to tie the game. Courtney Miller drove in a pair of runs for Ferris.

Mt. Spokane 15, Rogers 0: Sydney Wiyrick allowed four hits with eight strikeouts in a five-inning complete game, Ashton Cathey had a home run and three RBIs, and the Wildcats (11-1) beat the visiting Pirates (2-10). Wiyrick went 2 for 3 with a run for Mt. Spokane.

Shadle Park 14, North Central 2: Jillian Hurst had two hits and scored twice to lead the Highlanders (8-4) past the visiting Indians (0-12). Lily Cook added a double, scoring a run and driving in a run for Shadle Park.

Northeast A

Freeman 4, Colville 3: Jenny Sharp hit a walk-off single in a two-run seventh and the Scotties (6-5) beat the Indians (7-4). Sharp finished 1 for 2 with a run and a pair of walks. Abby Amend struck out five in a complete game two-hitter and went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Deer Park 7, Lakeside 6: Jaylee Lane had an RBI double in the top of the seventh and later scored the go-ahead run and the visiting Stags (9-4) held off the Eagles (3-10). Aggie Bennett went 3 for 4 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs for Lakeside.

Medical Lake 9, Newport 3: Suzanne Shores struck out 16 and the visiting Cardinals (4-7) topped the Grizzlies (1-10).

Northeast 1B

Colfax 18-14, Davenport 2-2: The Bulldogs (11-1) swept the Gorillas (4-8) in a nonleague doubleheader. Helina Hahn hit a double and home run in the first game and Harper Booth went 4 for 4 in the second game for Colfax.

Southeast 1B

Colton 15-20, Touchet 0-0: The Bulldogs (7-2) swept the Indians (0-7) in a doubleheader. Emily Schultheis pitched a no-hitter in the first game and Josie Schultheis did the same in the second game for Colton.

Idaho

Post Falls 20, Sandpoint 5: Bubba Gleaves went 4 for 4 with four RBIs and four runs and the visiting Trojans (10-10) beat the Bulldogs (2-14) in a nonleague game.

Timberlake 9, Lakeland 8: Maddy Salois picked off a runner at third base in the top of the eighth and scored the winning run in the bottom to lead the Tigers (15-1) past the visiting Hawks (8-12) in a nonleague game. Salois added two hits and two RBIs. Kathryn Wardak hammered a three-run home run for Lakeland.
