Former Ferris assistant football coach indicted on federal sex trafficking charges

He was originally arrested last year on state charges, but now federal prosecutors have named a former Ferris High School assistant coach in a six-count indictment on charges involving sex trafficking, enticing and production of child pornography.

Charles J. Eglet was indicted earlier this month on the six counts, including online enticement of a minor; sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion; sex trafficking; receipt of child pornography and production of the same.

Eglet, then 29, was arrested last August on several state charges, including two counts of third-degree child rape, third-degree child molestation and communicating with a child for immoral purposes.

According to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, Eglet was an assistant football coach at Ferris in 2017 and 2018.

Last August, Spokane Public Schools spokesman Brian Coddington said in a written statement that Eglet was not a teacher and had “limited supervised duties related to the football program.” Eglet, who was placed on leave after his arrest, had worked at Ferris since 2014 and helped coach boys basketball, baseball and football.

Eglet appeared Thursday via video conference before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mary Dimke and pleaded not guilty to the new federal charges. Eglet’s initial trial date was set for July 15.
